1. Find your style

Firstly, you need to find your style. Put together a little ‘vision board’ with your favourite spaces and things you like - you will start to see certain looks and styles coming through. Is there a lot of colour & quirkiness, or are your images a little more subdued & relaxed? Whatever it is, own your style and you will feel confident to curate a space that is YOU.

2. Don’t be afraid of colour!

Colour adds depth & brings personality to a space. Choose a key piece in your home and work back from that. It might be artwork or a rug, select a few key colours from these pieces and work them back into the space through cushions, throws and styling objects. Not just 1 or two colours, but choose 3,4 or 5. This way it ensures the space is not too ‘matchy, matchy’ but rather relaxed and homely.

3. Not everything needs to match.

I would avoid matching every piece in the same style & finish. If we take the living/dining space for example, you might often see a timber oak table with oak chairs & oak armchairs & oak coffee & side table. In my opinion, this can look too curated and a little spiritless. To avoid this, I would add in some personality by selecting a glass coffee table & perhaps a stone side table for example. By adding some interest through the use of different materiality, this will elevate your space & make it unique to you.

4. Layer, layer, layer.

Layering is key if you want your space to feel homely and ‘lived in’. Layer your coffee table with book stacks, trays, candles & objects - arrange and layer them in a thoughtful way. Add touches of greenery around the space, using different pots, sizes and heights for variation.

5. Take your time.

You don’t need to go out and buy it all at once. Don’t rush the process. Creating a look that feels authentic and unique to you takes time. Be sure to let things evolve naturally!

Please note: This advice totally depends on your home and your own personal taste! So take a little or as much away from this as you like 😊
